Nathan Gorman

Born in Dallas, Texas in 1978, Nathan Gorman was first introduced into working with glass at the Frabel Glass Art Studio in Atlanta, Georgia. He was hired to manage quality control, but quickly took on new responsibilities which included sandblasting Frabel sculptures and sand-carving plate glass awards for the studio. It was during this time he began experimenting with the various tools and materials available to make his own visions come to life.

Nathan Gorman’s work is recognized by its deep, multidimensional carving and balanced geometrical line work. It is subtractive sculpture, which requires him to think and create in negative space. Nathan Gorman Glass Art tends to draw the eye out and in to see the piece as a whole, and then to more closely examine the finer details which are visually and physically textural. He works with both soft and hard glass, as well as crystal. For some of his projects, including the “Illuminated Collection”, he incorporates additional materials such as rare woods, metals, and others.

“I’ve become fascinated with translating physical work into glass. Often the results are not what you think they would be, leaving something unexpected, but often times surprisingly attractive and worth repeating. The process I follow is very emotional and I tend to become intimate with each piece. It is important to perform each action precisely every step of the way, otherwise any inconsistency will become increasingly obvious and beauty in the symmetry will tarnish.”
