Joseph Ivacic

This body of work by Joseph Ivacic is intended to be a physical representation of the split views our country has in its current state.  The riot shield in reality is a barrier between the police and the protestors.  The imagery of protestors on these objects creates a strong contrast for this juggernaut of situations.

Using the physical form of a shield as a historic marker and documenting current events, Joseph Ivacic is commenting on our current lack of civil equality.  He is an advocate for this struggle of equal rights for minorities due to being part of a multicultural family.  The racial attacks to Asian Americans due to the statements made about our current pandemic by the past administrations which increases my fears of safety for his child.  The ethnic movements fighting for rights of all minority groups, and by standing with them, he is taking a stand for his family.

By using glass as the primary material in these objects he is discussing the fragility of our modern state and if we as a country are hit hard enough we may crack or even crumble.
