Biata Roytburd

Biata Roytburd was born in Odessa, Ukraine and immigrated to the United States with her family as Jewish refugees from the former Soviet Union in 1990. She received her BFA in Illustration from the School of Visual Arts, New York in 2010. While studying at SVA, Roytburd concurrently began training in ceramics at Choplet Ceramic Studio, Brooklyn. In 2009, she apprenticed to Judy Fox, with whom she also studied anatomy and sculpture in clay at the Salzburg International Academy of Fine Arts. he was awarded a scholarship to attend the Haystack Mountain School of Crafts in Deer Isle, Maine, in 2010, working as a teacher’s assistant to Cristina Cordova. Other awards include a forthcoming fellowship from Greenwich House Pottery in Spring 2020. Recent exhibitions include those at the Clay Art Center, Port Chester, New York (2019) and Abmeyer + Wood, Seattle (2017), among others. Her commissions include a number of works made for the Empellon Group of restaurants in New York, as well as for several private collectors. Roytburd teaches ceramics at Choplet Ceramic Studio, and has been a visiting instructor at Manhattanville College, Purchase, New York. She lives and works in Brooklyn, New York.
